Repsol-YPF operates several oil fields in the Neuquen Basin. One of the main technical challenges facing Senergy in this field was gaining an understanding of the distribution of reservoir quality (porosity) in the mixed clastic/carbonate sequences of the Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous.
As a first step, Senergy undertook an integrated reservoir seismic characterisation (RSC) study, combining multi-mineral petrophysics, rock physics, post stack acoustic impedance inversion and 3D geological modelling. The project dataset comprised 180 km2 seismic and 32 wells with sonic and density logs, covering four complex clastic/carbonate reservoir levels.
